Loving Yourself- Nighttime Self Care Routine

Valentine’s day is coming up. Before you can spread the love to others, you must be sure to take care of yourself. This is my extended body care routine. My hair care is a whoooole other story, so that wont appear here! Stay tuned.

1. Make a cup of tea.

Before anything can happen, tea.

2. Tidy up.

Having a clear space will give you a clear mind. Before I can begin to relax for the evening, I put away any clutter that has accumulated during the day.

3. Prepare clothes

I set out my clothes for the next day and take my pyjamas to the bathroom.

4? Dry brush

Theoretically I am assisting my lymph glands. At the very least I am giving myself a good scrub. I don’t do it as often as I should.

5. Silk towel scrub

If I don’t use my dry brush I use a Japanese 100% silk towel and my soap to scrub my whole body.

6. Wash face

I like to wait until my skin is warm and damp from the shower, and do an oil cleanse, then use my cream cleanser.

7. Facial exfoliation

To prep my skin for a face mask I use a physical or chemical exfoliator. Be careful not to scrub your face too hard, which can cause more harm than the good it does.

DIY facial scrub: mix white sugar and sweet almond oil.

8. Face mask

Depending on what my face needs at the time I will use a moisturizing or detoxifying mask.

9. Moisturize the body.

I prioritize getting moisture on my face over my body when I step out of the shower. Since I don’t want to over-dry my skin, I just pat dry my body, leaving my skin slightly damp. I tend to mix homemade body oil with my moisturizer.

DIY body oil: 1:3 parts jojoba oil to sweet almond oil. I like to add lavender, ylang-ylang, and orange blossom essential oils

10. Warm clothes.

If I am lucky and the heat is going off while I shower, I put my clothes on the heater!

Before I fall asleep I try to review what I am grateful for to put myself in the right mindset, and to relax.
