Herbal wash for hair growth

Why buy a hair treatment that hardly contains its featured ingredient when you can use it straight from the source? Sure it’s not in a pretty bottle. But I am sure you can find one. DIY treatments tend to be more effective and customizable, as you can control all of the ingredients going into your mix. No chemicals, no fillers.

I bought these ingredients from a local spice store but you can also find them online. I store my dried herbs in Mason jars out of sunlight.

The method:

I mix equal parts of each in a clean glass jar and cover with filtered water the night before I want to use it. The next day I strain the herbs and place the rinse into a clean bottle. After shampooing, I squeeze out the excess water from my hair, then pour over the rinse and let it sit for a few minutes. I follow up with conditioner. You can do a rinse as often as you would like, but depending on how often you wash your hair that may be tedious. I try to do a rinse once a week/ two weeks since I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week.

Fenugreek seeds (methi)

The indian spice “Methi seeds” are known to treat a variety of hair problems. The seeds can be used as a paste, or the soaking water can be used to treat thinning hair, dandruff, dry hair and more.

Fenugreek contains:
Protein- helps repair structural damage
Iron- increases circulation
Nicotinic acid- promotes hair growth
Lecithin- imparts shine and nourishes hair follicles

Hops

If you drink beer you probably know about the plant “hop.” While it is used as a flavoring agent for beer, it actually has many medicinal properties. it can be used to treat inflammation, and even leprosy. Some benefits to the hair include reducing hair fall and dandruff. Antioxidants, vitamins and minerals found in hops helps to soothe the scalp.

Nettle (Urtica Doioca)

Nettle is often treated as a weed, but actually has many health benefits!
It is rich in Vitamin A,C,D, K, and B. it contains proteins that help repair hair damage, and contains iron, potassium, manganese, calcium, magnesium phosphorous, silica, iodine, silicon, sodium, and sulfur.

Horsetail (Equisetum arvense)

Horsetail contains the mineral silica, which helps to strengthen the nails and hair. It also contains selenium, which is needed for hair growth. I take it in capsule form when I can remember.
