- Getting sick is never fun, and almost a cruel joke when you are on vacation. Stay healthy abroad using the tips below!
Layers!
This is especially important if you are traveling in between climates. Light layers help you travel seamlessly between the cold airplane and warm destination. Don’t get sick on the plane because you were shivering the whole time!
Tip: Bring an empty water bottle and refill at a fountain to stay hydrated on the plane.
Morning tea.
Instead of drinking a glass of water upon rising, replace it with a warm tea. This is another way to sneak in some extra vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. I like to bring a few tea bags with me, as they travel well and are light.
A healthy breakfast
If breakfast is included with the hotel stay, I usually opt for fruit and oatmeal. This time there was a $9 per person/ day charge. No thanks! On day one we went to WholeFoods and loaded up on fruits, nuts, yogurt, oatmeal, and other healthy snacks to eat over the next few days.
Short workout
The only time I step foot in a gym is on vacation. But you don’t need a gym to work out. I like to use the work out app SWORKIT to get a 5-10 minute workout. This is in addition to my usual stretching. You set a timer and do 30 seconds of an exercise with verbal and visual instructions. Super easy to follow along, and no equipment needed!
Sleep.
Sometimes there are so many activities happening, it may seem like there is no time to sleep. In order to fully enjoy each movement, make sure you are well rested! This is especially true if you are doing a lot of physical activities.
Enjoy!
Stress, in my opinion, is the number one killer. I am a very stressed out person. I always need to be doing something. On vacation I give myself permission to do absolutely nothing.
